Politics
The August 25, 2026 Oklahoma primary runoff had one county-level race on the ballot in Beckham County: Republican runoff for County Commissioner District 3. Sammy Carnes defeated James E. Greer, receiving 456 votes (60.08%) to Greer’s 303 votes (39.92%). All five precincts reported, with 759 total votes cast.
That result affects Sayre because Sayre is the county seat and the county government is based there, although the commissioner district itself may not include every Sayre precinct.
Statewide races affecting Sayre
Beckham County voters also voted in statewide contests:
- Republican governor: Mike Mazzei defeated Gentner Drummond statewide by 186,678 votes (50.28%) to 184,631 (49.72%). Mazzei won the Republican nomination and advanced to the November general election against Democrat Cyndi Munson.
- Democratic U.S. Senate runoff: N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas won statewide over Jim Priest, 61.2% to 38.8%. In Beckham County, Priest led Thomas by about 7 percentage points, with 295 votes reported in the county result.
Turnout
Unofficial figures show 2,168 ballots cast in Beckham County, equal to approximately 18% of the county’s 11,845 registered voters.
These results were still unofficial as of August 30; the Oklahoma State Election Board said certification was scheduled for September 1, 2026.

The Rodeo of Champions in Elk City is starting up on Sept 4th and running to the 6th. Not only the rodeo, but there are also other events going alongside the rodeo.

Gossip Corner
There is a Billboard in Front of the Trinity Fellowship church in Sayre that has some of the citizens in a slight state of consternation. Many want it taken down. Others are talking about throwing a sheet over it.
Many are wondering why this adult novelty store would choose to put their sign up in front of a Church. I personally don’t know why, but I would think that they actually don’t know that it is in front of a church, and even if they did, is there anything wrong with two people in committed relationships throwing a few adult toys into their sex life? So are these people upset because of the toys and where they are, or are they afraid of the discomfort of explaining to their kids? I can rest assured that 90% of kids don’t care.
Cemetery is getting trashy
According to many folks in Sayre, they are more than concerned about the state of the cemetery. They are seeing that there is too much trash in the graveyard. So how do we as a community rectify the problem? The best solution I could think of is that when you are at the cemetery and you see trash, pick it up. Then choose a time or two during the year and just make it a cemetery clean-up day. It gives the cemetery maintenance personnel some much-appreciated assistance, and it will make it easier for others.
Use some common courtesy
Guys, if you need 3 cases of beer(different kinds that have be walked up Individually, ) a carton of cigarettes (trip 4), and other items from a drive through window, could you just go inside so we can get a Dr. Pepper!
There are two solutions if the person ahead of you is taking too long because they ordered half the store. Then you can relax and be pleased to know you can get that DP in due time. Or you can park and go inside and beat them to the red light.
