SWOSU school-psychology accreditation
SWOSU’s specialist-level School Psychology program received full National Association of School Psychologists accreditation, effective August 1, 2026 through August 1, 2031. The program prepares school psychologists for assessment, behavioral and mental-health support, and school-based consultation.
New allied-health space at SWOSU
The university announced a new Allied Health Science space in the Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Physics Building, intended to bring students, faculty, and programs together.
Leadership scholarships announced
SWOSU selected 15 students for its 2026–27 President’s Leadership Class. The group includes six Weatherford High School graduates; freshman participants receive $1,000 scholarships in each of their first two years plus a first-year room scholarship.
Women’s soccer outlook
SWOSU’s women’s soccer team was picked second in the Great American Conference preseason coaches poll, only one point behind Harding. The Bulldogs open at home against Colorado Christian on August 27 at 4 p.m.
Politics
City Council election Tuesday
Weatherford voters will choose councilmembers in two contested races on August 25. Drew Terrel faces Kendon Wood in Ward 1, while Warren Goldmann faces Joshua Adkinson in Ward 3. Polls are scheduled for 7 a.m.–7 p.m. So don’t forget to vote.
Anthony Moore Selected to National Conference of State Legislatures Executive Committee
Oklahoma House Speaker Pro Tempore Anthony Moore, R-Clinton, has been selected to serve on the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), giving Oklahoma and western Oklahoma a stronger voice in national discussions involving state government.
Moore began his one-year term at the NCSL Legislative Summit in Chicago in late July. His term will run through the organization’s next summit in Atlanta in August 2027. Executive Committee members help guide the NCSL, which represents more than 7,300 state lawmakers and 30,000 legislative staff members from all 50 states and U.S. territories.
The NCSL works to strengthen state legislatures, encourage lawmakers to share policy ideas, and represent state interests within the federal system.
Through his new position, Moore will help shape the organization’s priorities while representing Oklahoma’s interests and perspective in national legislative discussions. His appointment also provides additional representation for western Oklahoma on issues affecting state governments nationwide.
Moore may serve up to three one-year terms on the Executive Committee.

Run for Hope
Saturday, Aug 29 · First Baptist Church, 1510 E Davis Ave, Weatherford, OK 73096 — A family-focused 5K and 1-mile memorial run/walk remembering those lost to addiction, with inflatables, food trucks, and a DJ. Registration opens 7:30 AM, group photo 8:15 AM, 1-mile starts 8:30 AM, 5K at 9:00 AM. Proceeds benefit the Finding Hope and Hope After Loss support groups. Registration from $25. We have a Goodwill Wallet thief
It would appear that a young woman had dropped her wallet, and a 50-year-old-ish woman in a green shirt decided to help herself to the funds that were available in it and then discard the wallet onto the nearby shelf. Yeah, money is tight, but never too tight to take from those around you. So shame upon you, green-shirted old lady. May your pantyhose elastic become shot and fall off your butt.
Congrats to the new OHP officers
There was a bit of a celebration that brought a slight bit of worry and consternation to the Performing Arts Center earlier last week. The worry stems from the large collection of Oklahoma Highway Patrol and State police vehicles being parked in the parking lot. Rest easy, dear citizens, it was because three upstanding local boys were graduating from the OHP academy and were being welcomed into the fold. #NothingToSeeHere
Also, don’t worry about the hospital, they are actually making some money. So we won’t have to worry about them suddenly closing.
